Hidden between little streets right in the historical centre of Bologna, you can still find a laboratory of craftsmen, where works are still carried out personally and individually.
This is il Cartiglio founded in 1979: thanks to a course about paper conservation and bookbinding, a small group of passionate started a new activity.
Year after year il Cartiglio gains expertise in this sector. Research and experiments
make possible a slow transformation from classical to artistic bookbinder mainly because of a whole new set of cartonnage and paper-decorations creations.
Extensive research over different type of paper and always-new drawings still gives
new impulse and stimulate craftsman's work.
What we hope for is to keep on working the way we do now: without any aid of technology and electric machinery, in order to make possible the creation and shaping of objects only by hands.
